Some of the most beautiful and decorative bands in history were created with this technique. Designs appear on both sides of the fabric, with colors reversed. The double-faced structure consists of three-span warp floats in alternate alignment, and twining occurs only where there is a color interchange. Learn to read a pattern graph, and practice a two-pack method for weaving. Beginners to this technique will start with simple geometric shapes and letters. Those with some experience can weave a more intricate design from my book Double-Faced Tablet Weaving: 50 Designs from Around the World . Motifs in this book come from many different cultures and times, and are inspired by designs from a wide variety of craft media. Class discussion will cover tips for avoiding and correcting mistakes, and for graphing your own designs. Students must know how to make a continuous warp and have some experience with weaving simple warp-twined patterns.
